CALENDAR OF EVENTS

At the Center

First Friday - Free Music Night
7:00 p.m. - The West Hanover Boys with special guests return the first Friday of each month beginning February through June, then returning September through December. This free concert is a monthly treat! Donations accepted to benefit the Center.

September through June
After School Enrichment Program

A state licensed program for children age 5 to 12. Bus transportantion is available for South Anna Elementary and Liberty Middle Schools. Children have the opportunity to atten classes offered at the Center after school, such as art, music, and dance. There is ample time to complete homework with tutoring available. Daily activities include art, outside recreation, snack time, library, and movie day. There is a special activities plan for early release days. Hours of operation are 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $50 which includes a family membership to the Center. Bus transportation is available from South Anna and Liberty schools. Weekly Registration fee is $80. Start day September 4, 2007. Instructor/Director: Barbara Ellis.

Susan Singer, A Fulbright Scholar, Painter, Photographer.
For Susan, art is a spiritual practice, a meditation. She enjoys playing with color and form and light, listening to soulful music and focusing on making something beautiful to the exclusion of anything else.

February 22: Pampered Chef Bingo, 7 p.m.
Join us for a fun night of bingo with Pampered Chef products as prizes for each game! Admission fee is $20 per person which includes snacks, all sixteen bingo games and a chance for door prizes. There will be an auction of homemade baked goods and a raffle for some great Pampered Chef items. Proceeds benefit The Montpelier Center. Call 804-883-7378 to request tickets and reserve your seat.

Entry fees and forms are due by March 3, 2008 for The National Juried and The Virginia Regional Exhibition for the 11th Annual Celebration of the Arts Exhibition. April 26: Celebration of the Arts Exhibition Opening, Award Reception and Gala.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. featuring three exhibitions works of art: The 11th Annual National Juried Exhibition, The Virginia Regional Exhibition and The Young Artist Exhibition. The evening will begin with an opening gala reception, music, wine, heavy hors d'oeuvres and the opportunity to view works of art available for purchase. More Info Here. July 1 - August 16: In Our Gallery: Emma Lou Martin - Painter
Reception July 13 from 3 - 5 p.m..
A signature member of Virginia Watercolor Society, specializing in watercolor and collage on paper under glass, Virginia artist, Emma Lou Martin has for the last fifteen years devoted her life to the arts in Richmond. Graduating with a fine arts major from Randolph-Macon Women's College and the College of William and Mary, she only "dabbled" in art while raising a family. At mid-life, she became a professional artist after continuing studies with master artists. Her versatile paintings reflect her love and respect for nature and man's achievements.

July 26 - Bees and Beetles Workshop
Make your own Botanical Wreath

Participants will learn how to handle and group a variety of materials on several types of forms. Participants will take home the wreaths they make. All materials and tools are provided. Fee: $10. Call 540-872-5187 to register.

September 1 - 30 In Our Gallery
Bill Kinsey & Leo Szydiowski, Artists
Receiption September 7 from 3 - 5 p.m.

Bill Kinsey has a BFA and is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and the Baltimore Watercolor Society. "Art has always been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I enjoy experimenting with traditional mediums in unexpected ways, but I am always searching for new materials and methods. It's the process and how it suggests images that I find so rewarding."
E. Leo Szydlowski is a native of Lynchburg, Virginia. A serious painter since high school, Mr. Szydlowski is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society. "I find subject matter in every place I look. I rarely look for a composition; they seem to find me. I do prefer studies and finished work that are in strong light which allows a pattern to be established in the composition.'"

A wonderful program for children in the community. Hours of operation will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Bus transportation is available from South Anna and Liberty schools. October 1 - November 16: In Our Gallery Michael Coleman Exhibit
Reception October 5 3-5 p.m.

Michael Coleman is a native of Provo, Utah and spent his boyhood hunting, fishing and trapping throughout the Rocky Mountains. Early on, he decided on a career in art, studying at Brigham Young University. His paintings are rich in detail and muted in tone, true to the remote landscapes he chooses to illustrate. The Indian encampments, wildlife and hunting subjects portrayed against these magnificent areas are rendered in such a way as to give the viewer a sense of gazing at the past.

October 1: Deadline for Celebration of the Trees in the Country
Local businesses donate decorated trees/wreaths for silent auction. Proceeds raised from the auction will benefit non-profit organizations. Call Betty Brabrand for an application at 804-883-5008.

November 14: Basket Bingo
7:00 p.m. For a very worthy cause, join in for a great night of bingo! Sixteen games total with a Longaberger Basket as the prize to the winner of each game. Admission Fee $20 per person which includes snacks, all sixteen bingo games and a chance for door prizes. There will also be an Auction of homemade cakes and a raffle for Longaberger Baskets. November 21 - December 31: In Our Gallery: The Grand Local Artists Show, Reception November 21* from 5 - 8 p.m. (during the Holiday Arts & Crafts Show).
In 2007, the Montpelier Center for Arts and Education hosted the first annual Grand Local Artists Show in which approximately 100 artists contributed over 100 works that lined the walls from top to bottom, and we expect to do as well in 2008. Center members and artists of West Hanover and Louisa Counties, Ashland, Rockville and other local communities, please help us repeat that amazing show. November 21-22: Holiday Handmade Art & Craft Show
Friday 5-8 p.m., Saturday from 9-3 p.m. What a great time to start holiday shopping! Visit with artists and craftsmen for many unique and distinctive gifts that will make great gifts for family and friends or for a special treat for you. Admission is FREE! December 5: "Celebration of the Trees in the Country" Opening Day:
Stop by and bid on trees and wreaths decorated by local business and non-profit groups. Moneys raised by Silent Auction benefits the decorator's chosen charity or non-profit group. Final bid due by 2 p.m. of Saturday, December 13 at Santa's North Pole. December 13: Santa's North Pole
Come and enjoy a free visit with Santa! There will also be a Santa Shop for last minute Christmas shopping and a Santa Lunch.
