Empty Bowls Dinner Saturday, January 24th at 6:00pm Given by the Patrick Henry High School's Fine Arts Club to benefit WHEAT (Western Hanover Emergency Action Team). Help fight hunger by choosing a hand made bowl to fill with soup. Keep the bowl as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. Tickets are $10 and will be sold in advance by the event sponsors and fine arts club members. Free Creative Workshop! Wednesday, March 4th from 10am to 3pm Bring several pieces of completed work in any genre (painting, sculpting, quilting, woodwork, etc) to exchange ideas, techniques and creativity and for creative guidance from your peers and Sandy McGrew. Share your inspiration with your Arts Community! Art studio will be open for those wanting to work on pieces as well. Sandy McGrew is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Printmaking and Color Theory. She was certified by Sacred Heart University to teach Independent Study for Brand Awareness (logos). For 25 years, she was in Retail Graphic Advertising. She plans on spending the last third of her life as a studio artist and new grandmother. |

Candidate Forum Held by the Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club Thursday, April 2nd at 7:00pm Cavalier Rifle and Pistol club will sponsor a candidate forum for the announced candidates in the June 2009 republican primary seeking to replace the retiring Delegate Frank D. Hargrove, Sr. in the Virginia House of Delegates, District 55. The forum will be open to the public and those intending to cast ballots in the republican primary in June are encouraged to attend. 12th Annual Celebration of the Arts Exhibition Opening and Awards Reception Saturday, April 25th at 6:30pm Featuring three exhibitions: The 12th Annual National Juried Exhibition, The Virginia Regional Exhibition and The Young Artist Exhibition. The evening will begin with an opening gala reception, music, wine, heavy hors d'oeuvres and the opportunity to view works of art available for purchase. 2009 Local Spring Art Retreat Friday April 24th - Saturday April 25th with instructor Jillian Warner Continuing the painting retreat started by Barbara Jones in 2007, Ms. Warner will demonstrates her ‘en plein air’ method and style, beginning by looking for subjects in the village of Montpelier. This workshop will begin with a short session on design basics and participants will be encouraged to use the medium of their preference to discover thier own inspiration and perspective. If you have ever wanted to explore painting on location or would like to spend time exploring your creative talent, this is a perfect opportunity! WHAM (Western Hanover Art & Music) Summer Camp August 10th - August 14th 9am-4pm (see registration form for info on a half-day option being offered this year!) Children ages 7 to 13 will explore for a full week the world of art and music of the Tropical Rain Forest. Local art and music teachers will guide the children through activities such as singing, painting, creating rain sticks and lots more as it relates to the rain forest. “Beginning Collage, History and Hands-On Techniques” August 6th from 10am – 3:30pm Instructor: Dare Boles Participants in this workshop will first be presented with an overview of the history of collage and assemblage as a fine art medium. You will be given an orientation to the various papers and supplies that are used to create collage. Following the introduction, you will have a "hands-on" opportunity to apply various collage techniques. Take home a finished work. Some materials will be furnished. A supply list for participants will be furnished prior to the workshop. Maximum: 12 students. Lunches will be provided and a menu will be sent out with choices following registration. About the Instructor: Richmond-based artist, Dare Boles, exhibits her work nationally. One of her collage works was included in an international exhibit in China in 2008. She is a member of the National Collage Society (NCS) and is the founder of the Virginia Collage Society, the local NCS chapter. Dare’s work can be seen on the Ceres Gallery (N.Y.) website – www.ceresgallery.org – and the Uptown Gallery (Richmond) website – www.uptownartgallery.com . |

21st Annual Golf Tournament Monday, October 5th The Federal Club (new venue this year!) $600 per team Registration fee includes golf for 4, cart, driving range use, lunch, goodie bag, and Oktoberfest reception! This annual event starts at the Clubhouse for lunch and continues with a special day with many contests on the course, great prizes, raffles and give-aways. 2009 Fall Art Retreat Tuesday, October 13th - Thursday October 15th with instructors Carol Meese and Jillian Warner Arriving Tuesday at this circa 1856 Manor House – totally renovated in 2004- with guest Pond House, overlooking a pond, horse barns ,screened porches with sunset and mountain views all offering many visual treats to explore and paint. The two night stay in the Gordonsville area will allow one to concentrate on their painting. This retreat is designed for anyone who wishes to explore the use of their personal or favorite medium for a plein-air painting experience. The Retreat Leader, Barbara Jones and instructors, Carol Meese and Jillian Warner (back by popular demand from last year), will assist in giving helpful lessons, directions, demonstrations and critiques.
