So, you’ve been saying you would like to take an art class someday, but you don’t exactly know when
and where to begin? Well, this is your time and this is the place! Maybe you would like to brush up
on some old skills or learn some new ones. Your inner artist is just waiting to have some fun and tap
into some old aspirations and dreams. No experience needed. Ages 18 -108.

The instructor, Michelle holds a master’s degree in art education and has taught art in public and
private schools in Virginia for over 25 years. She is also a freelance artist, illustrator and painter.

Intermediate Oil Painting with Instructor Betsy Taylor
Mondays from September 21st - December 7th
10am-12pm in the art studio

This class is for students with a working knowledge of oil. Impression and cubism techniques along with
glazing and impasto styles will be covered. However each student will be encouraged to explore their
own direction with their own subject matter as well as those presented by the instructor. Materials extra.

Design & Drawing Class - SHADES OF BLACK AND WHITE
Wednesday, January 27th thru February 25th
10am in the Art Studio

This winter class offered by graphic designer, Sandy McGrew and artist, Barbara Duke Jones will present
a 6 session class exploring the basic strengths of black and white designs. Creating with various black
and white media-pen & ink, charcoal, pencil, ink washes, and collages while interpreting, writings, music,
and visual set-ups will expand the appreciation of the beauty of black & white.

Encaustic Workshop - Instructor Lynda Ray
Sunday, April 25th
10am-4pm in the Art Studio
$78 guest/$65 member (includes lunch - material cost is an additional $20)

One day workshop on Sunday, Feb. 21 from 10 am to 4 pm in Art Studio. Lynda is a professional artist
whose painting have been shown locally and nationally plus published. Encaustic is a luminous medium
that is made up of molten beeswax, pigment and dammar resin. It can be smooth and shiny, textured and
three dimensional all on the same painting. We will explore melting and fusing, line and edge, working
with paper, texture, scraping and incising. Encaustic, once an ancient process, is now updated with new
tools and equipment.

The participant will be supplied with a small piece of board (4x6”) for each technique, to practice on.
There will be 6 techniques taught, so there will be a total of 6 (4x6” pieces of wood) each.

I supply the equipment, paint, medium, brushes and tools. No prior art experience is required. Maximum
of 6 students.

Open Media Painting and Drawing Class – Instructor Betsy Taylor
Monday, April 19th to May 24th

Classes open to artists of all media, including oils, pastels, colored pencils and watercolors, and all
experiences. Short 6 week session.
"Painting Plein Air in June" - Instructor Christaphora Robeers
Friday, June 11th - Saturday, June 12th
9am-5pm Daily

Join us for a delightful, two-day journey in the open air… Painting Plein Air in June. Participants at all
artistic skill levels are welcome and may work in the medium of their choice. During the first day of the
2-day workshop, artists will remain at The Montpelier Center to study plein air techniques and paint on
the grounds at the Center and historic Sycamore Tavern. On day two, spend a full day painting on
location at a local home and gardens. At the end of the painting day, Christaphora will conduct an
interactive evaluation (critique). A materials list and hand-outs will be supplied. Box Lunches will be
provided and a menu will be sent out with choices following registration. Minimum: 8

Richmond resident and internationally recognized artist, Christaphora Robeers has exhibited her work
around the globe. Her work is found world-wide in public, private and corporate collections, and is
represented in galleries in Virginia, New York, Georgia, and her homeland, the Netherlands. Sharing her
vision, creativity, and talent, Christaphora is also a mentor and teacher to some of the finest artists in the
Richmond area. "My painting dialogue has always concentrated on color. Color is light and light
represents and supports life. They are a spiritual memory of the past and of the future."
