Scottish Highland Dance competitions are a celebration of heritage, agility, and artistic expression. At our event on May 17th, Highland dancers from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region will gather to compete for special awards. Numerous dances will be performed, including the renowned Sword Dance, a traditional dance historically executed over two claymores by Scottish warriors. Presently, although we use less dangerous swords, the tradition is maintained. Attendees will witness young dancers skillfully jumping to the rhythm of bagpipes while carefully avoiding the crossed swords.
Dancers will perform other traditional dances throughout the event, including the Fling, Sword Dance, Sean Triubhas, Barracks, Flora, Lilt, Scotch Measure, as well as their schools' uniquely choreographed Broadswords.
